Process

Step 1: Form a sub-committee of 3 students. If you are a group of two you still must examine all three areas of reform

Step 2: Assign one topic to each committee member
The topics on governmental reform are:
A. Reform of the Senate
B. Power of the Prime Minister
C. Reform of the Electoral System

Step 3: Each committee member must research their topic and consider the following three “big” questions.
i) How does the system currently work?
ii) What are the advantages and disadvantages of this system? Create a Plus/Minus chart and thoroughly complete it in point form.
iii) What are possible changes to this system? Choose the most important change/s that would have the greatest effect on this system and be prepared to explain them to your group.

The following sources should give you most of the information you need. Minimal additional research will be neccessary

Step 4: As a committee, each member must share their findings from Step 3 to their group and then as a committee the group must decide which topic is the most important to the province of British Columbia. The group will then write a letter to the Prime Minister of Canada informing him of which governmental reform is most crucial and why and what possible changes he could make. This letter should be submitted in hard copy with the full names of all students on it.
